已知可用:AirPods(第 3 代)、AirPods(第 4 代)、AirPods Pro(全部代次)、AirPods Max。

App?

English

What does this app do?

Tiltic - Head Down Timer reads your head pitch angle from the motion sensors in the AirPods you are already wearing, and plays a quiet cue once you have been looking down past a threshold you set, for longer than you set. It measures how long your head has been down. That is the whole app.

Which headphones work?

Known to work: AirPods (3rd generation), AirPods (4th generation), AirPods Pro (all generations), AirPods Max.

AirPods 2 and earlier lack the head-motion sensor this app needs.

What actually decides is a runtime check: at launch the app asks the system whether this device can supply head attitude data, and tells you plainly if it cannot rather than leaving you watching an angle that never moves. So whether your headphones are on the list above, the app's own message is the final word.

Why does it force a calibration the first time?

Because the pitch angle the system reports has no defined zero. The system documentation never says which posture "0 degrees" corresponds to, so there is no system neutral to borrow. The app asks you to sit normally and calibrate once, recording your neutral position; every angle after that is measured against it. Skipping calibration would mean showing a number with nothing to compare it to.

To recalibrate: Settings → "重新校准中立位", any time. Do it again after switching headphones, or whenever the readings feel off.

Why is the location arrow in my status bar? Why is this app in Now Playing?

Because the guard has to stay alive in the background. iOS does not let an ordinary app keep reading sensors in the background; there are exactly two ways through: play audio, or use location. The app implements both, and you pick one in Settings:

  • Sound: the app plays inaudible audio, so it shows up in the system's Now Playing
  • Location: the location arrow appears in the status bar. None of the location data is used — the app only borrows the right to stay running. See the privacy policy

Both costs are shown permanently in the cost bar on the main screen rather than hidden. If you want neither, keep the app in the foreground while you use it.

Why is there a gap in the middle of a session?

The system suspended the app, and no sensor data arrived during that stretch. The app will not pretend it was running; it reports exactly how long it missed. Frequent gaps usually mean the keep-alive method was interrupted (another app taking the audio route, for instance) — try the other method in Settings.

What does "—" mean where the angle should be?

That the sensor is not producing a valid number right now, so the app shows no number. Common causes: the AirPods are not in your ears, they disconnected, another device took the audio route, or you are lying down (head pitch stops meaning anything horizontal).

This is deliberate: better a dash than an angle from several seconds ago.

My Live Activity disappeared from the Lock Screen

The system caps Live Activities at 8 hours and ends them automatically, after which the Lock Screen keeps it for up to 4 more hours. If the guard is still running, the app requests a fresh one.

I cannot hear the cue

  • Check the AirPods are still connected (a "—" for the angle means they are not)
  • Check the volume is not all the way down
  • The cue is sound only: no haptics, no notification banner. That is a deliberate choice, not a missing feature

Where is my data, and is any of it uploaded?

All of it is on your device, and none of it is uploaded. The app does not use the network, has no accounts, and the developer cannot see any of your data. Deleting the app removes everything. See the privacy policy.

How do I report a problem?

Email norvynzhang@gmail.com. Include your iPhone/iPad model, iOS version, headphone model, and what was on screen when it went wrong; that saves a round trip.
