Using EXT4 Access

EXT4 Access uses Apple's native FSKit framework to access supported EXT4 USB partitions in Finder and ordinary macOS file tools. It supports browsing, copying files between the Mac and drive, creating folders, renaming files and saving changes within its supported filesystem range.

The current range is healthy external USB storage with a Linux GPT data partition, 4 KiB EXT4 blocks and supported filesystem features. Recovery-required or unsupported volumes are refused. EXT4 Access does not format or repair drives.

On the tested macOS system, enable EXT4 Access in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → File System Extensions. No reduced-security configuration or kernel extension is required. macOS discovers and mounts supported volumes. Refresh only refreshes the app's inventory; manual Mount in the sandbox app is disabled.

Finish transfers and close files before using normal Unmount. Eject is available only for a single-partition drive that passes the app's current identity and busy-state checks. If the drive is busy, close the relevant files and retry only after conditions change. Do not force removal or initialize a disk to dismiss an unreadable-disk alert. Contact support with the exact error instead.

Compatibility limits

Native ACL preservation and enforcement are unsupported. Some copying applications may report success while omitting ACLs. Full macOS metadata/permission fidelity is not claimed.
Resource forks are unsupported.
While a file remains open for writing, its mounted modification time can remain stale after fsync. A tested same-size modification was missed by rsync's default size/time comparison; normal writer close refreshed visibility in that tested case. The issue is unresolved. Do not rely on size/time-only backup or synchronization for still-open writers.
The app's minimum deployment target is macOS 15.7. Actual native runtime validation covers Intel macOS 15.8.1 on a dedicated USB setup. Apple Silicon is included in the universal build but physical runtime remains unverified.
Not every EXT4 feature, damaged filesystem or external storage transport is supported. Keep independent backups of important data.

在系统设置 → 通用 → 登录项与扩展 → 文件系统扩展中启用 EXT4 Access；不需要降低系统安全级别或内核扩展。由 macOS 发现并挂载受支持的卷；刷新仅更新应用列表，沙盒应用中的手动挂载不可用。

操作结束并关闭文件后使用正常卸载。推出仅面向通过身份与忙碌检查的单分区磁盘。遇到忙碌错误，关闭相关文件、待条件改变后再试。不要强制移除磁盘，也不要为消除“无法读取磁盘”警告而初始化磁盘。

不保留或执行原生 ACL，某些复制工具可能遗漏 ACL 却报告成功；不支持资源叉，不能假定完整保留 macOS 元数据和权限。写入句柄仍打开时，即使 fsync，挂载视图中的修改时间仍可能陈旧；实际同尺寸修改被 rsync 默认尺寸/时间判断漏过。正常关闭在该次测试中恢复可见性，但问题尚未修复，请勿依赖尺寸/时间比较同步仍打开写入的文件。

最低部署目标为 macOS 15.7；已验证的原生运行环境为 Intel macOS 15.8.1 和专用 USB。通用构建包含 Apple 芯片架构，但实机运行尚未验证。并非所有 EXT4 特性、损坏卷或存储传输方式都受支持；重要数据请保留独立备份。
